February 2026 Newsletter

💙 President’s Welcome

Welcome back Dynamites — to what is already shaping up to be a fantastic netball year!

While the official winter season doesn’t tip off until May, with registrations now closed, coaches appointed and completing induction, and grading for players in years 7-12 underway, it certainly feels like the season has well and truly begun.

This year we’re thrilled to have 160 players registered from primary and secondary schools across the City of Vincent catchment and our neighbouring local communities. Each year we continue to grow, reflecting the strong demand for a welcoming, inner-city club where players can connect, learn and thrive through netball.

At Dynamites, our focus is simple — creating a fun, respectful and team-centred environment where players can enjoy the game. Our dedicated coaches are passionate about supporting every player to build skills, fitness and confidence while having plenty of fun along the way. They work closely with our amazing Competition Coordinators, who have been busy behind the scenes over recent months preparing for the season.

A huge thank you to our Volunteer Competition Coordinators for their leadership:
• Gemma Owen (Net Set Go)
• Sarah Miles (Years 5–6)
• Carly Willcox (Years 7–8)
• Sharon O’Reilly (Years 9–12)

Please be sure to thank them when you see them — their time and energy make such a difference.

We’d also like to recognise our wonderful volunteer Committee Members who continue to lead the club this year alongside our coordinators: Sharyn Marrissen, Jodie Gray, Kristy Jones and Brooke Lau. Our club simply couldn’t operate without the dedicated doers in our community — thank you for everything you contribute.

Here’s to a brilliant season ahead. See you on the court!

President

📍 Our Biggest Net Set Go Season Yet!

This Winter we’ll have a record 5 teams participating in Net Set Go, including players from years 2 to 5 from six different primary schools – North Perth, Mount Lawley, St Paul’s, Highgate, Bassendean and St Columbo’s. Most teams include a mix of players from different schools, which will be a great opportunity to make new friendships as well as hone skills! Big thank you to our volunteer parent coaches/assistant coaches – Ellice, Shannon, Jack, Brett and Ben as well as our club coaches Robyn and Sienna – coaching is a big commitment and we appreciate you all taking the role on this year. Our coaches will be supported by team managers Jules, Alene, Lisa D and Brooke – thank you for your support also! Looking forward to a fun season ahead.

🏆 Meet Sharyn

Sharyn Marissen, Coach Team 1 (9-12)

I started my netball journey at Greenwood Primary School as an assistant coach to a parent. I stayed with Greenwood PS until both of my friend’s daughters finished primary school. From there, I continued coaching junior teams while exploring umpiring and becoming involved with WDNA committees.

During this time, I umpired for the U/15 association team and achieved my State C Badge. Enjoying my involvement with association teams, I went on to complete my Level 1 Coaching Course, which allowed me to apply for a role managing — and later coaching — an U/15 association team.

I also coached school holiday programs, senior teams, and umpired at all levels of the game. In addition, I ran the junior competition at WDNA and served on the executive team.

I later returned to netball by supporting Coolbinia Primary School and am now proud to be coaching at Dynamites. In 2025, I completed my accreditation as a Development Coach.
